This is really starting to take shape now. I'm almost finished. I am estimating 3 more weeks and I will be showing you the completed drawing. Looks like I will make the deadline! I'm pushing hard on this, working every weekday for 8 hours or more.
I don't want to see this journey come to an end but I am looking forward to relaxing once it is finished. As of right now I don't have another drawing concept formulating in my mind, but I'm sure it will come in due time. Maybe I'll work on something smaller next time!
Title: The Catalyst Size: when completed 30x39 inches Medium: graphite
Coming along really nicely, && ii love how you spend alot of time of one part, ii never have the patience for that =],ii was wondering what paper do you use?
No worries ohh i see, im guessing it's much more difficult to draw on, well certianly not for you lol, but for someone like me yess, anyways ii can't wait to see the final piece
april, have you yet worked out how to get the shine to disapear am having such a nightmare with it everywhere is just shining,, u worked anything out yourself? and lookin stunning, wow your really finding a kick somwhere at that size.
I suppose it might be just a tad bit harder to work on, but not so much. Just need added pressure and layers for the darkest darks. The reason I went with the matboard is because it is sturdier and cheaper than a piece of Bristol this size
Thank you, Prateek! Honestly, I have no idea how much time has been put into it so far...I have been working on this piece for almost two years now, but sickness prevented me from working on it steadily..... But I would take a guess of about 500 hours so far if I did the math of my average time spent. By the time this is finished I would say it took about 600 hours total.
Thank you, Wesley! Yeah I think I'm just a tad on the odd size for picking something so big to draw on! LOL As for the shine, I'm afraid it is the nature of the beast when you deal with graphite. Shine is going to happen. Graphite is a blend of charcoal and clay. Those ingredients help durability buy makes for a big shiny mess. The best a person can do is try to limit the shine down the best they can, and this is generally through using layers instead of a ton of pressure at one time to get the dark in one shot. I generally use about 4 layers to get my darkest darks. But a drawing is going to shine no matter how hard you try to keep that from happening.
